Croydon Athletic bowed out of the London Senior Cup after a competitive tie against Charlton Athletic at Mayfield Stadium.
A team made up of Academy and U21 players lined up for Charlton as they looked to progress in the competition that they had won twice in recent years. They took the lead on 11 minutes as they had the better of the opening exchanges. Shia-Lee Burnham used his strength to power into the box and fired it passed Tangara and just inside the post.
As the first half progressed, it was Croydon who began to get a greater share of the play. They hit the top of the bar early on but it was Kadell Daniel who almost equalized close to the interval when his free kick brushed the post.
The second half saw Croydon assert themselves but it was Charlton who would double their lead on 66 minutes as Josh Hebert finished from close range. But Croydon weren’t done and on 75 minutes David Bremang drilled a shot from the edge of the box to make it make it a tense last 15. Whilst Charlton remained a threat, it was Croydon who had the majority of the chances although they couldn’t pull level. It finished 1-2 and it is Charlton who progress to the next round.
