Croydon Athletic eased into the next round with a commanding performance and a comfortable victory over Midhurst & Easebourne.
The hosts featured several experienced players, but Croydon immediately seized the initiative. Josh Williams went close twice in the opening 10 minutes, including an effort that struck the post.
The deadlock was broken in the 16th minute. A Williams corner was headed back across goal by Ronnie Vint, allowing Luke Dreher to nod home from close range. Just three minutes later, Williams flicked the ball into the path of Finlay Marjoram, who drove into the box and slotted cleanly past the keeper to make it 2-0.
Midhurst relied on resolute defending to keep Croydon at bay, but the contest shifted in the 38th minute. During a rare foray forward by the hosts, experienced striker Brett Pitman tussled with Dreher.
The referee judged the challenge to be a foul and showed Dreher a straight red card.
Reduced to 10 men, Croydon adapted their tactics to protect the lead rather than push forward. The defence held firm until the 88th minute, when a Pitman cross managed to evade everyone and nestle into the far corner. Midhurst failed to create anything further, and Williams sealed the result with a thoroughly deserved goal with the final kick of the match.
